The Marcus Trescothick story
It’s true to say that Marcus Trescothick is one of the finest cricketers England has ever produced. A glittering career on the international stage was sadly cut short. Marcus was diagnosed with a debilitating mental health condition. It was a condition that had plagued him for some time, but he was still able to perform at the top of his game. For most, this crushing illness would signal the end of a sporting career. Not so for Marcus Trescothick! After a rehabilitation spell, he returned to domestic cricket and his beloved Somerset County CC.
With his continued success with SCCC, Marcus was honoured with a testimonial year in 2018. It has to say that receiving a testimonial is a great honour any sporting club could bestow on a player. Marcus Trescothick, however, has been fortunate enough to be honoured with two separate testimonials over his career. It is highly unusual but indicative of the amazing service Marcus has given the club over the past 26 years.
To support his testimonial year, Marcus Trescothick approached Autumn Films to create a short film promoting his testimonial year. The challenge for Autumn Films was to encourage audiences to engage with Marcus’s testimonial. It was made more challenging as this was the second testimonial Marcus had been awarded in ten years. The biggest concern was the audience apathy. So the decision to focus the film on Marcus’s biggest conflict in life was made. It’s been no secret that Marcus has struggled with mental health problems for several years. To bring further awareness of mental health issues, Marcus describes how he overcame his mental health challenges.
The film has been very well received, with over 250,000 impressions worldwide.
If you feel your brand, business or non-profit would benefit from a story related film, it would be great to hear from you.
